BLACKBIRD invites artists to claim artistic space in the midst of navigating a world that marks the existence of Black women as invisible. The participating artists implode the wall of invisibility by paying reverence to their lineage and highlighting the ways in which their ancestry manifests in their work and life. The work is a collective representation of the ways in which Black women seek their own versions of liberation through ancestral reverence, healing, and cultural and self-preservation, all the while weaving in notions of spirituality.
