From Vicky Pass:
The Association of Sewing Design Professionals is holding their annual conference in Baltimore this year. The theme this year is Sustainability. You can find details on the conference here: www.sewingprofessionals.com. The conference is open to students, though there is a significant registration cost, it's mostly a number of different garment construction classes and workshops and classes related to garment production.
Debby Spence, who is in the local chapter, reached out to let me know about a student contest that might be of interest to folks at MICA. Here's info from Debbie:
2022 ASDP Student Challenge: The theme for this year is "From Thrift Shop Find to A Night Out". Entrants will be asked to create a completely new vision from previously loved garments. The challenge consists of two categories - High School (Juniors/ Seniors only) and College/University students who are currently enrolled in a fashion design- or costume-related program. Cash prizes will be awarded for at least one winner in each category. The winning garments being announced at the annual ASDP Conference, to be held October 20-23, 2022, in Baltimore, MD. For more information students can contact Loesje Shema at studentchallenge@sewingprofessionals.com
They are also looking for a few students to volunteer as models. It sounds like that would involve a fitting and then being at the show on Friday October 21 from 5-10pm. I think that volunteering for this would allow students to see the garments in the fashion show and meet some of the designers/makers.
If any students are interested they can contact Debbie: dlspence@verizon.net
