In an effort to streamline the online learning process for our students, we are asking all FYE courses to commit to using Canvas in three strategic ways. If you'd like to watch a video explanation, click here. Password is: FYE
Attendance: All FYE classes need to take attendance in canvas. Luckily, it's easy and fast!
Assignments: We found that this is the one area that makes the most difference to student experience. For every assignment you give your students that you expect to be turned in, be it a project, an in class activity, a quick homework etc, we ask that you note that by making it an "assignment" in Canvas.
This can be done weekly, in advance, with pdfs, with video etc. BUT it would go a long way if faculty used the assignments feature to keep track of what is assigned for homework and projects. That way we can teach students to “check the assignments” page to know what’s due/what’s expected etc.
Grades
Not all faculty will grade every project or assignment, but some record of work being completed is good for students and faculty communication, especially online.
We can help faculty who like to grade in different ways to adapt this. It doesn’t mean that you have to give grades every week!
