The Doel Reed Center in Taos, NM invites applications for the position of Smelser Vallion Visiting Artist for a minimum of two weeks during July, 2020.

The visiting artist will be expected to undertake a project, in any medium, that is influenced by and/or reflects the landscape and/or culture of the Southwest. The recipient will interact with students enrolled in Oklahoma State University's Taos class “Motion Design Studio: New Mexico as an Inspiration for Motion Design” from July 6 - July 17, 2020. Students will study how a title sequence for a film or series sets the mood, foreshadows themes in the story, and establishes a compelling aesthetic experience through the use of visuals and sound design.

The recipient also will be expected to deliver a public talk and/or demonstration while in Taos and to visit Oklahoma State University to share his/her work, give an artist’s talk, and conduct a community workshop. The honorarium is $5,000.The Center will provide the artist with housing and studio space in Taos for two to three weeks and cover the expenses associated with the recipient’s Stillwater stay.
