CFP: [re]Framing the Arts: A Sustainable Shift | Art/Switch

Deadline April 20, 2020

Website | Applications

Global developments and the rapid growth of the art world highlight the need for a continuous questioning of sustainability in the arts, in terms of actors and methods. In 2020, art institutions are just beginning to wake up to their role in contributing to climate change. Recent calls for action, such as the climate emergency declared by the Tate, generally focus on the environmental impact of museums. Accompanying these reforms are guidelines from museum associations, for instance, Resolution No. 1 adopted by ICOM’s 34th General Assembly. However, the issue of sustainability is still greatly missing from major sectors of the art market. In line with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, this conference aims to open up an interdisciplinary space in order to connect debates, enhance networks, and initiate a platform for the field of sustainability in the arts.

Academics, designers and art professionals–e.g., curators, art handlers, collection managers, architects, insurers, shipping coordinators, operations managers, fair coordinators–are invited to submit an abstract (250 words) for a presentation (approx. 20 min) at. We encourage diverse formats of presentations.
