Call for Curatorial Proposals: SPRING/BREAK 2018

Deadline November 20, 2017

Website | Application

Spring/Break, New York’s annual curator-driven art fair, has announced the theme for its 2018 edition at an as-yet-unnamed venue during Armory Week from March 6-March 12: “Stranger Comes to Town.”

This “classic binary storytelling trope,” reads a typically eccentric announcement calling for curatorial proposals, will serve as a cue to “consider foreignness and its heresies, the scale of migration and its effects on the artist practice, Otherness in the flip-flop of lionization and fear, and the narrative agents in formal practice that obliterate or confirm the Us and Them from the second half of the adage, ‘All great literature is one of two stories; a hero goes on a journey or a stranger comes to town.’ ” Submissions for proposals will be open this year from October 1 through November 20 2017
