The Rubys Artist Grants provide direct funding of up to $15,000 to Baltimore-area artists to support innovative projects with significant impact. Grants are offered in four broad discipline categories—Performing Arts, Media Arts, Visual Arts, Literary Arts—for the creation of new artwork. Applications in each discipline category are accepted once per year.
The Rubys paused to evaluate the program, now in its seventh year, to ensure that we could adequately meet artists’ needs in this moment. We understand that art is not made in a vacuum, and in order to support art-making, it is also important to support the artist. Program updates include:
- The maximum request amount has been raised to $15,000.Eligibility is now focused on artists living in Baltimore City and Baltimore County only.
- Eligible budget expenses have been expanded to allow personal overhead needs. Personal overhead can be used for any sort of basic living expense: rent, mortgage, childcare, utilities, groceries, etc... an amount that is supportive for you to offset some of your expenses during the course of the grant term.
- This year, the public component requirement is optional due to the health crisis and uncertainty of public gathering limits.
- The project description of the application has been lengthened to 2 pages maximum.
