The Grand Marais Art Colony

Deadline October 17, 2022

Website | Application

The Grand Marais Art Colony is the longest-lived art colony in Minnesota. It began in 1947 as a Minneapolis College of Art and Design summer program. Since then, the Art Colony has grown exponentially and now hosts immersive classes from May-September, supports artists with studio access, and crafts several signature events, including the annual Grand Marais Arts Festival and the biennial North Shore Readers and Writers Festival.

The Art Colony provides artists with independent workspace in professional studios set within the dynamic North Shore of Minnesota. An environment of creative freedom supports the process and development of new works, allowing for a combination of aesthetic inquiry, creative risk-taking, experimentation, and artistic development.

We are currently taking applications for our 2022 Independent Studio Access Residency program which provides space and time to artists to work in one of our five studios for 1-4 weeks and stay in our dorm quad. Our residency season runs from mid-January 2022 - April 2022 and from October 2022-December 2022.
