Fellowships support individuals pursuing advanced research that is of value to humanities scholars, general audiences, or both. Recipients usually produce articles, monographs, books, digital materials, archaeological site reports, translations, editions, or other scholarly resources in the humanities.

Fellowships cover periods lasting from six to twelve months at a stipend of $5,000 per month. NEH has increased the Fellowships monthly stipend from $4,200 to; as a result, the minimum award is now $30,000 (for six months of full-time work). The maximum award is now $60,000 (for twelve months of full-time work). Applicants should request award periods that suit their schedules and the needs of their projects. Recipients may begin their awards as early as January 1, 2019, and as late as September 1, 2020. The award period must be full-time and continuous.

NOTE: Teaching and administrative assignments may not be undertaken during the fellowship period. Please notify your Chair/Director and Division Dean if you plan on applying for a NEH Fellowship.
