Real Time and Space Residency

Deadline May 01, 2018

Website | Application

Real Time and Space (RTS) is comprised of 15 work-only artist studios and an artist residency program located in a former print shop in Oakland’s Chinatown. RTS aims to provide a productive and participatory workspace for our members and residents by fostering opportunities for dialog, collaboration, and cross-disciplinary interaction. Our members include a wide range of artists, writers, curators, and designers. RTS seeks to facilitate the exchange of ideas within and beyond the Bay Area artistic community through our residency program.

This open call is for our 2018-2019 residency program. All residencies are six weeks long. Residents receive a studio for the duration of their residency and an $800 stipend. Out of town residents will be offered a room in a 3 bedroom apartment at 2727 California Street, thanks to a new partnership that hosts RTS residents within their West Berkeley residency and art space. Out of towners will also be given $300 in travel support. The residency studio at RTS is 170 sq ft and the residency includes access to a communal woodshop. RTS is centrally located near BART and downtown Oakland.

Residents are asked to commit 15hrs a week to the residency. Residents are asked to give a public artist talk and make a document in an edition of 7 for the RTS archive.
