The Aesthetics and Artistry of Hanbok

This coming February, MICA Fiber is hosting a delegation of Hanbok experts from South Korea. There will be the seminar on Feb 9, a Hanbokexibition Feb 9 - 11 at MICA. Lazarus Center and hands-on workshops and lectures.

 

The workshop dates are Feb 10 & 11 (Sat & Sun), 12-6 pm.

Workshop Syllabus:

 

The Aesthetics and Artistry of Hanbok:  Two days of Workshop

Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 10-11, 2018, 12-6 pm at the Station Building (S205)

 

Hanbok originated nearly 3,000 years ago, with today's traditional Hanbok style evolving from the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1897).  The 2 day workshop will feature a hands-on class with the fabrics, where the instructors will teach techniques involved in Hanbok design and fabrication. The workshop is sponsored by the Hanbok Advancement Center in Seoul, Korea and the MICA Fabric Department.

Day 1 (Saturday, Feb 10, 2018)
Time:  12 p.m.–6 p.m.
Place:  S205 (Station Building)
1.    Lecture:  Hanbok Styles
        Formal and informal wear
        Types of Hanbok
        Women’s Hanbok (Chima and Jekori)
        Man’s Hanbok (Baji, Jokori and Dopo)
2.    Demonstration:  Description of Hanbok worn by live models
3.    Hands-on workshop:  Creating a Hanbok basic pattern

Day 2 (Sunday, Feb 11, 2018)
Time:  12 p.m.–6 p.m.
Place:  S205 (Station Building)
1.    Lecture:  Hanbok Design
        Application of various expressive techniques
        Patterning techniques 
2.    Hands-on Workshop:  Learning detailed elements of Hanbok (needlework, embroidery, knots, etc.)
