Position Summary

Under Armour is moving forward with its digital and virtual transformation initiative to streamline both engineering and aesthetic functions cross-divisionally. This specific role, 3D Virtual Materials Creator Footwear, is a step forward of this initiative and will focus on specifying, executing, implementing, and scaling up the Materials Virtualization Strategy.

Near-term, that strategy will focus on continually building and improving the Virtual Materials Library to support the cross-functional Digital Product Creation process. Due to the versatility of materials and process, this position will enable cross functional work with Accessories materials as a secondary objective.

The long-term strategy is to further develop tools and processes to enable UA to engineer textiles digitally via predictive and data-driven virtual models prior to realization. We are determined to build a more efficient and sustainable method of engineering textiles and to enable more fine-tuning of textile performance, to make all athletes better.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Communicate, and collaborate with global Tier I, II, and III suppliers to facilitate virtual material creation standards and stability.
• Work with IT team on the continuous building and improving the functions of the Virtual Material Library for Footwear
• Create and drive technical process and documentation.
• Work with Footwear Materials and Digital Product teams to create and improve the virtual material toolkit seasonally to support the product creation process.
• Create repeatable patterns, texture maps, shaders and package 3D seasonal Footwear materials.
• Work with cross-functional teams to support digital samples quality assurance.
• Research, explore, identify new approaches, tools, and opportunities that can improve the existing process

• Knowledge or experience of 3D texture creation, 3D modeling, 3D rendering:
  • Experience using 3D modeling and rendering software (Keyshot, Blender, VRay, etc)
  • Experience creating 3D texture maps and repeatable patterns (Photoshop, Substance, xTex)
  • Experience with a flatbed material scanner and digital material software a plus. (Vizoo, X-rite etc.)
  • Excellent visual and aesthetic creativity. An eye for photography is desired.
• Basic knowledge of footwear upper materials
  • Understanding of materials construction
  • Understanding the underlying aesthetic impact of materials constructions.
  • Knowledge of footwear creation process.

Education And / Or Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Design (Footwear), Industrial Design, Materials Design or related field
• 0-2 years’ experience

Other Requirements

• Location: This position is based at our Global Headquarters in Baltimore, MD.
• Return to Work Designation: Fully In-Office
• Proficient in Adobe Suite, especially Photoshop, Substance,
• 3D experience required (Keyshot, Blender, rendering software)
• Knowledge in 3D scanner and xTex, will be a plus.
