We will not tolerate harassment of symposium participants in any form. Harassment includes offensive verbal comments related to race, ethnicity, sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, country of origin, age, disability, physical appearance, body size, religion, veteran status, or other protected class status; discriminatory or offensive images in public spaces; intimidation; stalking’ harassing or unwanted photography or recording; sustained disruption of talks or other events; inappropriate physical contact; and unwelcome sexual attention. Participants violating the anti-harassment policy may be warned or asked to leave by symposium organizers.

Practice active listening, active engagement, and being present.
Lean into your discomfort, which could include a lack of knowledge in a particular subject area.
If you normally talk a lot, be mindful of the space you take up.
Similarly, if you have a question that is more of a comment, please make sure it will contribute to the discussion at hand.
If there is someone in your break out group who hasn’t spoken up at all, check in with them to see if there’s anything they’d like to add to the discussion.
If at any time you need to leave a breakout session to check out another one, please feel free to do so. ‘
Symposium participants will come from different backgrounds and professional fields, please be kind when someone expresses confusion or doesn’t understand what is being discussed. For example, try to explain acronyms and don’t act surprised when somebody doesn’t share your knowledge.
