ARTIST STATEMENT:

For this project I wanted to contend with the idea of “the body” as an individual, disconnected being, re-evaluate the ritual practices we take part in in our daily lives and the ways we are bound by them. I am interested in taking familiar and functional objects, like wearable garments, and pushing the limits of what they can be and what really constitutes their characterization, and their “function”. With wearable materials, and object-making practices, the lines between self and our creations, as well as the decorations we put on our bodies, are blurry as they become extensions of our self, just as the lineage of past and present day come together to create new identities.
